Legal Clinic for Ukrainians. What we learned.

We had a very informative meeting yesterday on several new and existing programs for Ukrainians fleeing their home because of the Russian aggression and coming to the US.

We are grateful to the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants and especially its Associate Director of Legal Services in Raleigh Hila Moss for describing the specifics of various relief options and answering all of our questions. Also huge thanks to Vyacheslav Drobot for all of your help!

Overall, we are very grateful that both the Humanitarian Parole, and TPS, and Uniting for Ukraine programs provide safety for those Ukrainians who have chosen to come to the US.

At the same time, there are a lot of issues with both of these programs that are problematic: wait time for receiving work authorization (8 to 14 months), inability to use any social services being just two of them. Since both of these programs are temporary programs, they don't offer a pathway for immigration.

Grateful to all families who are currently hosting our Ukrainian newcomers for bringing them to our Clinic last night. If you know of other Ukrainian families who are in the Triangle area, please ask them to check in with us. Please, fill the forms on our website if you can offer or require assistance.
