Please join Galyna Karpenski and friends of Ukraine to raise awareness of the detrimental damage Russian invasion has on Ukrainian eco-system.
This event is coordinated with the Ukrainian animal welfare organization @UAnimals.
Event will be held on Jan 28th (2-5pm) next to the Raleigh Capitol Building (south side).
During the 10+ months of the war, the State Environmental Inspection of Ukraine has been collecting data to record the evidence of the environmental destruction. Below are just a few of many facts:
- 182,880 m2 of soil is polluted with harmful substances;
- 2,365,129 m2 of land is littered with remains of destroyed objects and ammunition;
- 680,618 tons of petroleum products were burned during the shelling, which resulted in significant air pollution;
- 23,286 hectares of forest were burned by rockets or projectiles, and it will take at least 10 years to restore some of the forest areas.
Countless wild and domestic animals including have been killed, died from starvation or injured with no medical help.
